According to this paper the following character sets are supported in GEDCOM 5.5.1:
- ANSEL
- ASCII
- UTF-8
- UTF-16
While ATM supports import of a GEDCOM in ANSEL it does not export in ANSEL. According to this information ANSEL is an old standard.
When exporting your data to a GEDCOM file, UTF-8 is the best option.
